This painting is one of those times where I actually started with a fairly solid idea, but as I went along, things changed. I had two options. I could either fight against the way the painting was changing and try to force my original vision into it, which would make for a super squished and uncomfortable composition, or I could just go with it and really put my energy into the painting the way it was. Since painting intuitively usually means that sometimes you have to follow where the painting takes you, that's what I did.
I honestly don't have a lot to critique in this painting. Now, that doesn't mean I think it's perfect. There's ALWAYS room for improvement! But I feel like this is one I might like to take to a larger canvas and put a little more energy into the details. If I have to critique something, though, it's that the break in the waves is right about horizontally centered, and that kinda bugs, so that for sure won't make it into another version.

Hi Jane, I love your work, I follow your videos on YouTube. I want to thank you! You’ve been an inspiration for me, I used to paint when I was in college but stopped for way too long. Thanks to you I started again and just finished my first painting in over 30 years.
Thnk you Jane, This is one thing I struggle with. Sea and sky paintings. I will be giving this ago. Your video was easy to follow so I should be able to do it. Thank you.
